A fine art photographic exhibition of work by Bob Swanson, celebrating the rejuvenation of Swanson Images and the discovery of the wonder of art on fabrics.

Swanson Images will also be open with River Run Gallery and Turn of the Century Gallery in Weed during the "Rollin' Weed" Festival the following day August 28th. The Galleries will be open from 1pm to 5pm

Bob Swanson, owner of Swanson Images fine art printing and veteran photographer, will host a reception for his photographs printed on a variety of fabrics including canvas, silk, and linen, entitled "Visual Athletics... Aerials, Abstracts, and More" to show the functional versatility of fine art printed on fabric, we will have on hand some examples of scarves, pillows, and other items.

Swanson Images is Siskiyou county's premier fine art printer of giclee limited editions and fine art reproductions of all sorts providing custom and personal service tot he art community of Siskiyou County and beyond. Bob Swanson, with photographic experience going back over 50 years, is a well known Architectural Photography who has been widely published in magazines and books for the last 3 decades. His works has appeared on the covers and in such publications as Architectural Record, Preservation Magazine, National Geographic, Smithsonian, Landscape Architecture, and many others. Swanson still accepts commissions by many of the most respected architects and corporations to photograph their projects.

~From Weed To Happy Camp~

~Hwy 96 to Happy Camp~

The road runs alongside the Klamath River and every mile or so there is a river access point to get out and walk along the river bank, throw rocks, run the dog, and enjoy a moment in rural America!

It was so nice to get out into the lower elevations that surround the Weed, CA area.... the temperature was a good 15 degrees warmer out there than we are used to in Weed during early Spring.

We knew we had arrived in Happy Camp when a giant

Big Foot Sculpture met us at the start of town.

The entire Happy Camp community had taken part in a river debris clean up a few years back. They collected metal scraps that had fallen down into the Klamath River, those scraps became this 15 ft. beauty that marks the legendary,

Sasquatch,

which is claimed to still dwell in the Happy Camp area to this day.

The building behind Big Foot is the

Klamath Siskiyou Art Center in Happy Camp.

There is a beautifully painted mural of an under water seen on the building and the artists that run the place are super great, we met for the first time at the Community Connect Fair,

they ran a food booth with organic burritos...

soooooo good!!

as you enter town, it proved to be useful for us so we could

find the parks, and trails, and get a good idea of the layout

of the land in and around Happy Camp.

As you can see, artists are finding Happy Camp

a cozy place to call home! We arrived in Happy Camp the night before the

Community Connect Fair

and were able to get settled in to the

Big Foot Cabin and RV Park.

We walked into a cute country cabin with an eclectic collection of furniture, blankets, and decor. The kitchen was stocked with cooking pans, and dishes, and utensils. There was a nice sized refrigerator - which we filled up with breakfast food from the

Grocery store located right across the street.

It was really nice to be in walking distance

to everything in town!

We went for a walk around town, the owner of the Big Foot Rentals recommended that we go check out the park in town.

So we did.

It was about 5 blocks to the park, and we were just in time to see the little league games and it was also the

High School Baseball picture day at the park.

We nestled in for a few innings of the game, and watched the kids run around, and the parents laugh, and baby brothers and sisters cheer on their older siblings that were in the game....

Right behind the baseball park, there is the town park, which has

DISC GolF!!

Disc Golf is a popular pass time in Weed, Ca and so we're excited to see that Happy Camp also features a fantastic course with beautiful views and lush green grass!

High school prank??

Gary recommended that we eat at the pizza place in town, so we did.

The ladies down there were running around making pizza dough from scratch and rolling it out, it was delicious!

Then it was time to get a movie and go to bed....

we picked up a feature film at the general store that our son picked out, and as you can see the bed accommodations were very comfortable......

The Happy Camp Community Connect Fair
The fair was set up in the "central park" in town and there was a wide variety of participants.

There were tables of information about wildlife rescue, North State Universities were there, local groups serving food, local jade jewelery, horse therapy, and of course the Weed Chamber of Commerce!

There was live music from these three guys all day,

followed up by a hip hop routine from the local dance company and some live rhymes from a local hip hop lyricist that was sweet!

It was a wonderful 2 days in Happy Camp!

We can't wait to get out there to go rafting when summer hits!

Weed for Artists!

The Siskiyou and Weed Arts Councils hosted a fundraiser in Downtown Weed at the Black Butte Saloon. There was everything from Live Music including local talents of Chic Music, Christopher Primm, and Strange Brew. There was an art show featuring Weed Arts Council Memebers, a silent auction, and an awesome belly dance performance from the Mountain Gypsies!

The Arts Councils brought in local celebrity guest bartenders including the Mayor of Weed, Dave Pearce, local musician Banjo Billy, Lauri Sturdivant (executive Director of the Siskiyou Arts Council), and Randy Lawerence from College of the Siskiyous in Weed. The tips raised during their time bartending went towards supporting the arts.

Let's all remember to support the ARTS in every community, it makes a difference!

BrewGrass Night~Put on Your Dancing Boots

BrewGrass Night is a place where locals & tourists can gather to play music, games, laugh admist friends, where children are seen clapping and dancing, and of course where there's good beer on tap!

The Mt. Shasta Brewing Co. is home of BrewGrass Night every Thursday 7-10pm in Weed, CA at 360 College Ave. The jam was started by Banjo Billy and Guitar John in 2008. All it took was one call to the brewery and 2 days later the jam was on!


Musicians from all over the state come to play at this bluegrass infused jam including guitars, mandolins, banjo, flute, bass, spoons, fiddle, and harmonicas, even the occasional visit from the California Bluegrass Association members drop in for a real show down of fast paced picking!

Banjo Billy is an award winning Banjo player that has toured all over the USA. He has represented the North State of California in statewide competitions. Billy enjoys the traditions of bluegrass with a rock and roll spin covering Led Zeplin from time to time....

This has been an ongoing fundraiser for the Weed Arts Council (WAC) for coming on 2 years (the 2nd Birthday Party is coming July 15, 2010). The money raised in the tip jar goes towards promoting the arts by providing WAC with funds for events, marketing, and memberships with other organizations such as the Weed Chamber of Commerce and the Siskiyou Arts Council.

The Weed Arts Council is so grateful for the talented musicians that come out and play and support the community of artists here in Weed. The only steady income for WAC is provided through this weekly event hosted by Banjo Billy, thank you for your dedication.

This is a major grass roots effort, money raised by the community, for the community, thank you everyone who has attended and contributed to our efforts in strengthening the arts in Weed California.
